I was so excited when I found this seat, it had everything I was looking for. It was a high back booster with a harness yet it converted to a backless booster, so the price of $200.00 did not scare me from this purchase. It was a seat we could grow with instead of out of. However once I got it it was not at all what it seemed. The picture looks like a high back booster with a hard back, but it nothing but a poor booster seat with a loose head rest attached with a thin layer of fabric for the actual back of the seat, The claim that is folds up is exactly that, it folds just like a shirt, or as I like to say it was “collapsable”. There is no way I felt my child was safe with this design. The bottom of the seat (the booster part) may be 3 inches if that? My 2 1/2 year old who is big , seems big in his Britax Marathon seat so I was looking for a transition seat. This is definately not it. I put this seat in the car and put him in it and he was swallowed by it. He would have been more secure in a highback without a harness, The design of this harness allowed him to move and get his shoulders out no matter how tight I got it, it doesn’t come over his shoulder properly. This is designed for 22lbs to 100lbs. My son is 35lbs and he was much too small for this seat. I myself could sit in this seat comfortably and I am 5′4″ and 120lbs, I might not get the harness on, but I can sit in the seat no problem. I would not recommend this seat for any age, too big and no boost for a toddler and not too many 7-8 yr olds need a high back with a harness, and as for size it is perfect for that age range. After purchasing and returning 3 different boosters, I finally hit the jackpot. This seat is much more secure than any of the othes. It attaches to my car via the LATCH system and the back/headrest portion uses the rear tether. It allows my son to be secured in the car with a 5 point harness without all the bulk. This seat is simply a great piece of engineering and it’s highly portable and EASY, EASY to install. There are no frills like cup/snack holders but when installed in back passenger side of my CR-V if I put the rear center console armrest/cupholder downit sits in the perfect spot. I really couldn’t be more pleased.

We have two of the original Safeguard versions of these seats. We initially used them for travel while my older son was still in his Britax Marathon, and have used it as his primary car seat from about 4 years on. We love this car seat. First, one should note that it does not look like a traditional car seat, it is primarily seat, harness, and headrest. This fundamental change means my son can remain in a 5 point harness much longer than he could have in most other seats, and he still feels like a ‘big kid’ in the booster-like design.
For travel, the seat is great. It packs up compactly in the included travel bag and installs in minutes once you reach your destination. Much better than lugging a full-size carseat along (even with the wheel attachments you can buy for them).
For daily use, we have very few complaints. First, my son complains that he isn’t as high as he was in his Marathon. This would have been an issue for almost any car seat he transitioned to, as the Marathon is very high. Second, his head does fall forward when he sleeps in the seat, but it doesn’t wake him up and falls in the inconvenience category as opposed to the unworkable category. He shows no sign of growing out of the seat, and it’s very easy to adjust the harness as he grows by simply sliding the adjustment clips upward. We are very happy with the seat, and have recommended it to friends, who also love it.

A 5-point harness seat that fits my son.
It is not easy to find a 5pt harness seat which fits my 3yr old (Just turned 3). He’s 50lbs, and 40″ tall. We have been using a small memory foam seat pad as well in all his seats, it makes it soo much more comfortable. With the memory foam pad (about 1.5″ thick), this carseat fits him just right, and there is still room to move the crotch strap one step forward. The harness also have plenty more to give on his legs and chest. The harness is easily adjustable on the sides. This is the first time I have been able to strap him in a seat with his Jacket still on.
Most 5pt harnesses are only usable up to 40lbs, tough luck if you have a big kid, some seats says 65lbs, but then the straps usually are way too short, this seat will truly deliver on the size.
Awesome.

Pros: 5 point harness; narrow for those of you who have multiple car seats or a car that doesn’t have a lot of space; light and portable, hence the travel size claim; buckles are easy to adjust and is well made
Cons: the back is not rigid, it’s soft so you have to harness it with a strap across the headrest; it is completely upright with very little side support which is my biggest problem with it – my son used to be able to sleep in his convertible car seat with no problem on long trips, but he can not get comfortable to sleep in this seat at all. I didn’t consider that at all when picking out the seat, but now I wish I had because we often travel at night while the kids sleep and this has become a real problem for us and we have considered buying a different seat.
