We ordered closeout color huntington and without being told, were shipped color taylor instead–at the greater price! Now we are being asked to pay the shipping to return a car seat that we don’t want and didn’t order. MAKE SURE at checkout that the price you are paying matches the car seat you want to order!

I would not buy this again for the following reasons.

1 – the Side Impact Protection is a loose piece of foam covered only by the headrest fabric (separate from the cover on the rest of the seat). It can be bumped out of position quite easily. Imagine putting a squirmy baby into a rear-facing carseat in a compact car and you can see that it is easy for this piece to get caught on your elbow or grabbed by the child. In the first 3 days of use, I cracked the foam in 2 places. There is no reinforcement to prevent this from happening.

2 – the concept of adjusting the strap height with a simple knob is a good one, but watch out if you have an older child who likes turning knobs and wheels…. I’m afraid my toddler will one day hurt his little brother by cranking down on that knob too far.

Overall, it is a very safe car seat, comfortable for the child, and a breeze to install. But that piece of foam could use some reinforcement. I can’t imagine that I’m the only one with this problem.

I got this item because it was on-sale and it was rated one of the best, I also got a Graco carseat for my mother’s car cause that one was on-sale and he wouldn’t be riding in it that much. I figured this one would be worth the extra money since it was getting really good reviews…yea should have bought two Gracos. This one only goes up to 40 pounds while the Graco goes up to 65. You would think for the money they would make it last a little longer. The straps seem to dig into my sons neck and the “strap protecters” I guess you could call them don’t stay in place, they slide down the belt so that doesn’t help protect his neck. Granted it is more padded than the Graco but he doesn’t seem to be uncomfortable when he is riding in the Graco and not the Britax. He is only 10 1/2 months so he can’t really tell me which is prefers but the $120 Graco seems just as good for him as the Britax. Maybe once it is facing forward I will notice more of a difference…If I could go back I don’t think I would have gotten this one, not a terrible car seat by any means but nothing special either.

I wanted a Britax because it is the best rated on Consumer Reports, and I was very happy to find this one on sale. I assume they are discontinuing the color, because otherwise it is the same as other colors priced over $250. The Diplomat is smaller than the Boulevard. We have a Subaru Impreza hatchback, and this car seat fits fine. The passenger in the front still has limited leg room, but it takes up about the same space as the Graco SnugRide we had for the first few months for our son. My son seems to like the seat. He never complains getting in, and seems quite comfy in it. His head also doesn’t flop forward like in the infant seats. The straps do get twisted up easily like some other reviewers have said, but it’s not a big deal. The only complaint that I have is that my son’s head smells like the “new” car seat smell after riding in it. I don’t like thinking about what chemicals that might be from the manufacturing process, but I guess it’s unavoidable unless there are organic fabric car seats out there. All in all, a great buy! Easy to install in the car too…pretty standard.

  5. We got this carseat for my son when he was 1 year old after him hating his infant carrier. He used to cry all the time in the carrier. Not with this carseat. He has not fussed once about being in the car or asked to get out, and we’ve had it for over a year now. My parents live far out of town and when we visit, we have used two other “highly recommended” carseats. It’s not the same. My son’s head never falls over when he falls asleep, and I have the comfort in knowing that his carseat was constructed by a truly reliable manufacturer. When my next baby is ready, I’m buying another one.
