Recaro Signo Convertible Car Seat The Recaro Signo Convertible Car Seat is one of the top models of convertible car seat to hit the market in quite some time. The car seat comes in four great colors which will fit in well with any car and is great for either a girl or a boy. This Recaro car seat has an ergonomic design and features heavy duty microfiber. The car seat is great for children up to about 8 years. There are loads of safety features on the Signo from Rec… More >>

We bought this seat for our 13 month old. It seemed like this was the best seat on the market. After we purchased this product, they said it was on back order. I did some research and found that this seat had been recalled. When the seat actually arrived the manufacture date was from the same one as the ones recalled. To see if it is recalled you have to tighten the straps all the way and then pull on them…if they release at all the seat was defective. I am not comfortable knowing that that is how Recaro deems the seat “safe”. Also the picture looks like the seat is black and a yellowy tan color. When the seat arrived it looked navy to me… it may have just been the way the light way hitting the fabric because that night my husband said that it could not look more black to him. Either way it’s not the best looking and for the money I could spend less and get a seat that looks better and is not recalled.

This product is a vast joke from a manufacturer I otherwise thought was a serious one. No more.
We were eager to buy our Recaro Signo for our 2 years old daughter. It looks great, it feels great to the touch, it looks well built. Sort of. The back cover falls all the time, it’s made of flimsy plastic. The straps look the same as the ones on any bag you can buy in a “99 cents” store.
Recaro did a wonderful job designing this seat. I am sure they put a full team with powerful computers, made the hardest possible tests, spent years and years finding the best shape, using the most complex crash test dummies. Didn’t they.
TOO BAD THEY NEVER PUT AN ACTUAL KID IN IT !!!
If they’ve actually tried with a real human kid, they would have realized that on any day warmer than 75 degrees, any kid would start profusely sweating within minutes. Just like ours does. Which would force the parent (you) to put the AC to the max, eventually creating a maybe comfortable temperature zone for baby, while guaranteeing a solid summer cold to all the other occupants of the vehicle.
To get to that point, though, you would have to manage to actually secure your kid in the seat. This might or might not take 5 minutes, but don’t count on anything lower than 45 seconds. The straps will get twisted EVERY time, getting entangled, turning inside the buckles. Have fun.
I am writing this after finally managing to get through the voice mail systems at Recaro North America (after two attempts to reach them through their website, to no avail). I should mark today’s day in stone, as I finally managed to speak to a customer rep. I was told my seat was GREAT, that it was working FINE, and that NOBODY has ever complained about a kid sweating in this thing. No, they don’t use breathable fabric, no, why should they, yes, cotton would be breathable but why should they use it anyway, yes, they are aware about the straps, if I am kind enough to buy the new version of the Signo, this problem has been worked on. No, they don’t sell the new strap separately. No, there’s nothing they can do for me, have a nice day.
Thank you Recaro, let me think that over… Errr… Guess what. No. I will never touch anything bearing your name on it with a ten foot pole, ever. I’ll stick to companies who don’t make Porsche’s seats, but know what a baby actually look like. Thanks for nothing. Even at the half price I paid for that sorry excuse for a child seat, it’s still $160 too many.
In short:
- Good if you leave near the North Pole. Plan for a sweating kid otherwise. We’re talking profuse, abundant, back-wetting sweating here.
- Good if you love spending time putting a strap back in the right place inside the buckle while your baby is getting annoyed as you’ve been trying to do that for at least a minute, and starts to kick and scream. Plan for some de-stressing pills otherwise.

Really wanted to love this car seat but it is such a pain to get my 11 month daughter in and out of in our Maxima. We CAN’T wait to turn the car seat around because I think it will be easier once it is front facing. It also causes a MAJOR blind spot in this car. (which may also be resolved once the car seat is front facing) Other than that, the fabric is very soft and she seems fairly comfortable with the side head rests. In our primary car we have the Britax Marathon and it is much easier to use. It also reclines more in the rear facing position so she looks a tad bit more comfy. I wanted to love the Recaro over the Britax but that currently isn’t the case. Again, I may feel differently about it when we can turn it around.

I purchased this car seat. I received the car set in just couple of days sicne I placed order. This has problems with car seat. First of all product dimensions do not match with what is stated on the web site. Secondly, the box that I received had some labels taken off .. I assume this was due to repackaging. Also taping on the box was in bad shape. Most importantly, based on the information on the web, this product has been recalled. I EXPECT AMAZON not to sell recalled product. Since this product has been shipped by Amazon to me, I am expected to call manufacturer and get this resolved. I absolutely do not feel comfortable using this car seat after reviews on the web. I expect Amazon to take ownership and get this resolved as other people may end up in same situation. The reponse from Amazon was very poor when I asked for total refund including shipping charges.

I originally bought this seat because I associate Recaro with racing seats. However, they have a bit to learn with manufacturing child seats. The straps twist every time I have to place my daughter in the seat & I have to adjust them. The pads in the belt are held in by velcro, which are easily removed by my daughter. The seat is also huge, which causes my daughter to place her feet on the seat in front of her like a foot rest. (Cant imagine that would be safe in an accident.) My biggest gripe with this company however, is their poor customer service; my seat has a recall & I cannot have it remedied because the child seat dept. is on vacation from 12/24/09-01/04/10. In the meantime I have to use a spare seat, a Costco which cost me around $54 & has straps that don’t twist.
The Recaro is a quality seat, however I am so disgusted with their service I would not recommend this seat to anyone.
